Former M-74 Route Maps
1932 Route Map
The map below is a modified excerpt from the May 1, 1932 issue of the Official Michigan Service Map, the publicly-issued state highway map of the time by the Michigan State Highway Department, showing the route of M-74 highlighted in its 1922–1938 configuration. This was the "classic" routing that M-74 used for the majority of its existence.

1920 Route Map
The map below is excerpted from the 1920 Official Map of the State Trunkline System, the first map distributed by the State Highway Department who had just begun signing the trunkline routes in the field. This shows that by 1920, the route M-14 continued northerly from Harrison to the southwest corner of Houghton Lake, then turned westerly into Missaukee Co before jogging northerly into Kalkaska Co to end at M-13 (later US-131) south of Kalkaska. It also shows how M-74 was never officially certified all the way to M-14 north of Harrison (the gap at the southeasternmost point in the route), although it was signed as such for a few years, likely as a "marked-and-maintained" route.
