1930 Map

From the State Highway Dept map titled "Road Map of the State of Michigan Showing Projects Awarded in Past Five Years and Proposed Five Year Program" issued July 1, 1930, the proposed western bypass of Detroit, which was established as a trunkline route in late 1930, is shown and highlighted below. The bypass, which was never built, was cancelled in its entirety in early 1935.

1932 Map

While the previous map above showed proposed construction projects for the five-year period beginning in 1930, the 1932 map below shows the state trunkline highway system as it existed on July 1, 1932. The M-15 western bypass of Detroit is clearly shown with a more precise route (although, interestingly, the proposed realignment of US-23 in Monroe Co from Ida, past Dundee, to Milan is not shown), meaning the M-15 bypass route was an officially-established route, albeit not yet constructed.
